“Some people look for a beautiful place. Others make a place beautiful.” ~Hazrat Inayat Khan

Outdoor Living Areas

Castle Rock Colorado is one of the most beautiful states and people are starting to spend more time in their backyard as another living area to truly take in Colorado’s beauty from home. There are a multitude of benefits that come with an outdoor living space, most importantly, boosting your health. It’s no surprise that spending time outdoors aids in healing. An outdoor living space can be used as a place to decompress after a long day, so it aids in lowering stress levels and improving mental health. Just imagine soaking in some warm sun while the breeze graces across your skin as you notice the flowers are starting to bloom, and the birds are singing. Serene, right?

Spending more time in an outdoor living space can also improve physical health. Gaining exposure to plant life, like trees, flowers, and grass, will boost your immune system. Therefore, people who spend more time surrounded by beautiful nature are often healthier and happier. Which is why at Renovations Landscaping we help design an outdoor living space that people love to enjoy.

Fire and Water Features

Enjoying the beauty of your backyard doesn’t have to stop when the sun has set. Incorporating a fire pit or fireplace in your landscape will allow the entertainment and relaxation to go on. Hearing the crackle and pop of fire embers will create the ultimate outdoor experience, allowing you to continue enjoying the fresh Colorado air.

Bring the serene experience of camping by a mountain stream home with adding a waterfall to your backyard landscape. Taking in the sounds of flowing water will create a luxurious outdoor experience that can’t be overshadowed by the distractions indoors. When fire and water features are added together, power and energy are brought forefront in a dramatic scene.

Play Areas and Castle Rock Outdoor Entertainment

Backyard landscapes are ideal for bringing family and friends together, starting with play areas and outdoor entertainment. Creating the space for children to play outdoors will aid in their growth and development. Psychologists have studied how play connects to preparing children for the demands of adult life. So, create the ideal play area for your little ones to become great thinkers.

Incorporating outdoor entertainment will bring fun for the whole family. What’s great is we’ll create a unique area personalized to your family’s needs. Consider adding a patio TV, pool, spa, horseshoe pits, trampoline area, fitness area, sound systems, multi-use sport court, and much more. The goal is you’ll want to be drawn to your outdoor landscape all day and night.

Flower and Vegetable Gardens

Add life to your life with a flower and vegetable garden. Flowers add color to brighten your day. These lively plants also stimulate four senses: sight, smell, sound, and touch. Observing the stages of a flower’s life can help relieve the mind from the demands of work. Many flowers are aromatic and taking in the fragrant scent can clear the mind. Flowers can also refocus the mind by listening carefully to a breeze whistling through them. Maintaining the liveliness of flowers requires interacting with them and getting hands a little dirty. This experience can feel incredibly rewarding.

There is just something incredible about eating home grown food. Knowing where your vegetables are sourced will create peace of mind for you and your family that you aren’t ingesting food affected by preservatives, pesticides, wax coatings, and even more. Eating home grown vegetables from your very own garden will stimulate a healthier way of life.

Stamped Concrete Patios, Paths and Retaining Walls

A subtle design aspect that has a major impact on the character of an outdoor space is stamped concrete patios and paths. Patios are the place of gathering and paths connect the landscape to make it whole, so they are frequently noticed. Adding a stamp and color will show off your personality. A simple grey slab of concrete will turn down the uniqueness of an outdoor living space. However, stamping the concrete to look like natural stone, wood, tile, and brick will be the cherry on top that improves the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor hardscape.

Thinking your backyard isn’t ideal for outdoor living because it’s a giant slope with no level ground?  Retaining walls create the space for outdoor living by leveling the backyard. The high level of ground that the retaining wall is separating then becomes a great place for adding plant life. Beyond that, they add character to the landscape while making space for family fun and growth.

Remember, you can stop searching and start making a beautiful place at home. When you are ready to start your dream landscape, Renovations Landscaping in Castle Rock Colorado is here for you and your family’s needs. A Fresh Start: Before and After a Dramatic Makeover

McBride b4 1When it comes to landscape design, sometimes it is best to start over. That was the case with a project we just finished. Our clients had space, wanted to entertain, but just couldn’t make it fit. We started over with a blank canvas to transform it into a family friendly backyard that’s ready for many summer nights around the fire.

Circle the Fire20160510_143646

The highlight of this yard is a large gas fire pit perfect summer nights. This fire pit has a large area for seating as well as LED lighting in the patio.

Trees, Plants and New Sod for Character

We’ve added new sod and an MP Smart Rotator Irrigation system to help conserve water. We also included new natural trees and plants to help with character around the fence line. New LED lighting highlights the plants and shrubs.

Corner Planter Box20160510_143256

With limited space and the need for a planter box, the design called for a small corner plant box for flowers, herbs or vegetables.

Concrete Path to Connect

To connect the front to the back, the design also called for a new concrete path for easy access.

It is always exciting to see a landscape design come together especially when we start over. This backyard went from a space that wasn’t conducive to this family’s life to one where they can have years of fun. More Space and Value: Benefits of Outdoor Living Spaces

Spears - Outdoor LivingAn outdoor living space is something that many people enjoy – often spending hours on end. If you don’t have one, maybe you’ve dreamed of having one down the road. That perfect patio, grill and table set up, it sure does look nice, but did you know there are many other benefits to adding an outdoor living space to your home?

Increase the Value

Outdoor living spaces are investments. depending on how big, and exactly what you want your outdoor living space design to look like, it could be a rather significant investment. The good news is that it is only going to add value to your home. When you go to sell your home, you’ll most likely get your money back. If you have an outdoor living space with a little character, then it will stick in a buyer’s mind, and your home will move to the top of their favorite list.

Ease The Crowding

Tanner - WallsWe’ve been there. You have a party in the summer, and everyone stands crowded in the house. Before you know it you are hanging out in a sauna. An outdoor living space helps to ease tight indoor spaces so you can relax. If your outdoor living space is large enough for a kitchen or at least a grill, you can enjoy the party while preparing the food and not be stuck in the kitchen. With a proper outdoor living space, you’ll have the house where everyone wants to hang out.

Adding an outdoor living space looks fantastic and can add value to your home. If you are looking for ideas to expand your outdoor living area, check out our Inspiration Gallery and then give us a call.

Xeriscaping: Conserving Water and Time

Rasmussen b4We know you’ve heard about the many perks of Xeriscaping, especially in our dry climate. It will conserve water and save you money, but did you know that it’s a great low maintenance solution as well?

With a busy a summer ahead you might consider Xeriscaping your own yard to cut down on maintenance. That is the story behind our latest project in The Meadows.

xeriscape_resizedFor this makeover, we removed the sod in the front yard. We added natural xeriscape plants that don’t need a lot of water in the dry summer months. We also installed a drip irrigation system to water when needed. To help the landscape flow, we added moss rock boulders, mulch, and a Siloam stone path.

The result is a worry-free, water saving yard, perfect for the busy summer. If you’re interested in converting your landscape to a low maintenance Xeriscape, give us a call for a Free Consultation.

The Benefits of Landscape Mulch

Erickson - smallMulch is often used as part of a landscape design or garden. Mulch falls into two categories — organic and inorganic. Organic mulches are bark, pine straw, grass clippings among others. Inorganic mulches would be things like shredded rubber, plastic and rocks. The difference; organic mulches break down over time and inorganic mulches don’t. Regardless of the type of mulch you use, it can help the flow of your landscape. But did you know there’s more to mulch than good looks? Here are a few benefits to using mulch in your landscape.

  • Mulch keeps the necessary moisture in the ground for your plants.
  • If you’re adding an organic mulch to your soil such as bark, pine straw or grass clippings, they eventually break down and give valuable nutrients for the soil.
  • We all battle weeds, mulch will help keep your weeds at bay. By laying mulch, the weed seeds will be kept in the dark and crowded, making it tough for them to take over your landscape or garden.
  • Mulch will also help with erosion. It will keep your soil intact during heavy rain falls.

If you’re planning a new landscape, think about adding mulch. If you need help with your landscape design, give us a call, and we’ll set up a free consultation.

Before and After: Castle Pines Paver Patio

image002We’ve had our battles with the weather this spring, but we’re making progress on several projects. One project we managed to finish last month was an incredible patio makeover in Castle Pines.

We were able to tear out an ordinary, concrete slab and create an inviting new paver patio. The star of this patio is the Borgert Pavers that we used to design and build the new patio and the three pillars that anchor the patio.

lundstrom 3This patio is full of character as it features a soothing waterfall, perfect for relaxing evenings.

Seating won’t be an issue either as we’ve designed this patio with a bench around the water feature.

3 Questions to Ask When Hiring a Landscaper – April Newsletter

Landscape season is in full swing. If you have a large
landscape project or perhaps a complete yard makeover, you
might be considering hiring a professional. You have plenty of
options when it comes to landscaping companies; here are a
few questions to ask a landscape contractor before you sign on
the dotted line.

How Long Have They Been in Business?
This will tell you how much landscape knowledge they have
about the local area.landscape-certified

Are They Certified? Are their Employees Certified?

Certifications and professional affiliations give a company credibility. They’ve made the investment in time and money to stay on top of the industry.

Ask for References
What better way to get proof of good work than to ask former
customers? Ask for references from the last three clients the
contractor has worked with. They’ll give you the “dirt” on the
company and you’ll get a good idea of the state of the
company. Ask if they’d hire the company again.

If you’re thinking about hiring a landscaper for your next project,
use these tips to help ensure that you pick the right partner for
the job.
